BOMA Int'l to Participate in Earth Hour 2010
The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International will participate in the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)'s Earth Hour 2010 by encouraging its members and local associations to support the initiative. WWF's global program asks that individuals, businesses, organizations and governments turn off all non-essential lighting for one hour, from 8:30-9:30 pm local time on March 27, 2010. The aim of Earth Hour is to visibly demonstrate global concern about climate change and a commitment to find solutions that minimize negative human impact on the Earth.
"The commercial real estate industry is committed to finding strategic and innovative solutions that promote energy efficiency and positively impact the bottom line," said BOMA International Chair James A. Peck, RPA, FMA, senior director of asset services, CB Richard Ellis. "Earth Hour provides the industry with a great opportunity to showcase our dedication to green operations and management practices in buildings across the world."
Since its inception three years ago, Earth Hour has become a global phenomenon. Nearly one billion people turned out for Earth Hour 2009, involving 4,100 cities in 87 countries on seven continents. Last year, 80 million Americans and 318 U.S. cities joined iconic landmarks from around the world that went dark for Earth Hour, including New York's Empire State Building, London's City Hall, Rome's Coliseum, and the Sydney Opera House.
BOMA International has a long-standing commitment to helping building owners and managers reduce energy use and implement environmentally-sound operational practices.
